Oh wait, did you think I was talking about Kweisi Mfume? I’m sorry, I was talking about Kweisi Mfume’s son, Michael. I really should be more clear in my post titles. From WJLA.

U.S. Senate candidate Michael Steele had a surprise visitor Thursday while campaigning with Democrats in Baltimore.

Michael Mfume, one of Kweisi Mfume’s sons, appeared at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center after Steele held a press conference with Baltimore Democrats and other Steele supporters.

When asked if his appearance represented his father’s support for Steele, the younger Mfume didn’t say yes or no. Instead, he quoted a Billie Holliday song describing how a son makes his own decisions.

Well, if you can’t get the father, the son is probably the next best thing…

I wouldn't exactly call that an endorsement.

Either way, this is a foolish move by Mfume's son. I am constantly amazed by how dumb some people are. Steele is an extreme conservative that would've been a Bush rubber stamp had he been in the Senate the last 6 years.

For all we know, Mfume Jr. might be an extreme conservative too.  Unlikely, but then how would any of us really know?

Look at Steele's stances on the issues and the comments he's made before he decided to run for Senate.

Just because he's trying to look like a Democrat in his ads doesn't make it true (except for the really stupid people).

That's not what I was saying.  You claimed that Mfume Jr. had made a foolish mistake in appearing at a Steele event, and thus assumed that he wouldn't otherwise be supporting an "extreme conservative".  My point is that for all we know, Mfume Jr. might also happen to be just as conservative.  Remember, the 'father = son' thing doesn't always apply.

Uh, I would.  Would you have been "suprised" at all to see Howard Dean endorse Bush after the 2004 primaries, after having already endorsed Kerry?

That I would have been suprised of, but I'm looking at this way

Kwesi is a big supporter of the black community (head of the NAACP), he might have the "better to have one of us" mentality and therefore endorse Steele.

He is also isn't a supporter of tax cuts or pro-guns that Steele is proudly a supporter of.
