If the Republican President allowed the Democratic Congress a free-hand on domestic policy in return for a free-hand on defense-related and foreign policy?

I doubt there would ever be an informal agreement like this, but for the purpose of this poll I would vote 'Yes (Democrat)'.

This would never happen.  But I don't really want our troops murdered in droves half a world away overseas, so no.

It's foreign and defense issues that the GOP is so horrible on, so no. I'd much rather prefer a Democratic President with a Republican Congress.

It would be a lot better than what we have now, in which the GOP completely controls both. So I'll vote yes.

No way.  Republicans can't be trusted with foreign matters.  For the most part, they are blubbering fools in that department.

I meant to vote Ind-No, but accidentally voted Lib-Yes.

I don't trust the Democrats with the economy any more than I do the Republicans. Leaving the Democrats EVERY aspect of domestic policy would mean more taxes and more social programs. Socially speaking the Democrats aren't much better than the GOPers...its all a matter of what you want regulated by the government.

Basically, it would be the same s**t sandwich, but with different bread.

I would actually prefer a Democratic president and co-operative Republican congress, it could make for stable government.

I'd love to see the Democrats do worse on it right off the bat.

I'd prefer that both houses of congress are evenly split and a third party POOTUS

And how does this make you any better than the Democrats who want Bush to fail (not that there are many at all of those, but conservatives love to talk about this)?

No (non-US citizen)

Plus it'd set a bad precedent.

I think this or the inverse would be the best option.  Through check and ballances a split government doesn't get much done, which is good to a small government supporter.

So basically the Eisenhower years? Sure.

We need the exact opposite. A savvy foreign-policy Democrat with a free hand in foreign policy matters, and savvy Republicans with a free hand to reshape our broken entitlement system.

Hell yes!

The President has a free hand on foreign policy anyway, so not much to lose.

Why did you reply to a post from nearly eight years ago?

The fact that the woman who pours my coffee at McDonald's will be making $10.10 an hour would not be consolation from the fact that gas is $5 a gallon now that we've invaded Iran and "intervened" in Ukraine and the Crimea.
