If you would vote for Joe Poorhater, you don't get a vote.

I'd vote for Whitehouse of course

Lincoln Chafee (Democrat)

If you would vote for Joe Poorhater, you don't get a vote.

LOL -I'd like to see you try to enforce that.

What I meant was that I wasn't going to include an "other" option.

Linc Chafee, and he was on his way to winning before the page boy scandal erupted.

It's a shame that a completely unrelated figure from another wing of the party (more or less), from an unrelated part of the country, from the other chamber of Congress, who did something completely unrelated to him, could be a factor that decides whether Chafee wins or loses.

I really doubt that it will have a significant impact on the outcome. Chafee will lose because of the (R) next to his name, not because of some scandal that has nothing to do with him.

Exactly, and enmity in Rhode Island towards that (R) label is currently being exacerbated even further by recent events.

Well, sure, this is going to hurt him a bit... but he was going to lose anyway. That's all I'm saying.

I still wouldn't be too sure of that.  Anyway, I just used "enmity" and "exacerbated" in a sentence, so I'm going to have a lie down for a while.

Does anyone know Whitehouse's stances on the issues?

It seems that most of the arguments I've heard from liberal Democrats for voting for Whitehouse is that he has a (D) next to his name.

This race has been dead for about a month now. Whitehouse has consistently lead by wide margins in polls.

Go to his website. He is to the left of Linc on just about everything.

Whitehouse because he has a D next to his name. I like Chafee better. I'm completly serious..... If I didn't think control of the senate was at play, I would be rooting for Chafee...... Sad.

I like Chafee, and he's better than many "Democrats" in the Senate. If he was running against a moderate-to-conservative Dem, he'd have my support, no questions asked. But I see no reason to support him over a more progressive Democrat. Whitehouse has really impressed me, and he'll be a great Senator.

Like a lot of Dems, I like Chaffee, but I can't support anybody who will vote for Bunning (or whatever conservative Republican leader gets chosen). Party shouldn't matter but it does.

Whitehouse. I like both candidates, but the majority in the Senate tips the balance for me. No matter how liberal Chafee is, a vote for him is still a vote for a GOP Senate and thus a vote for more power for President Bush and for the party as a whole.

Whitehouse, obviously.  Chafee is just as bad as an Inhofe, a Coburn, or Bush if he willingly allies himself with them in the same party - a comment which applies also to Snowe and Collins.

Why do you have two different Political Matrix scores?

the scores on the left use to be the political compass scores, but it was changed to Matrix, he just never updated it.

Big fan of Chafee, but like Whitehouse as well, and he is to the left of Chafee.  More important the balance of power could hedge on this seat.  So Whitehouse

In that case, I'd vote Whitehouse. Though in 2000, I might have supported Chafee over Weygand (who was a moderate-to-conservative Dem).
