In which Congressional District did John Kerry do the best and in which did W? Ditto for your state.

I dont have the numbers for TN, but I would presume that Kerry did best in TN-9 (my district!) and Bush did best in TN-7 (just down the road from me.)

Actually TN-1 was the most GOP district in TN. TN-9 was indeed the most Democratic.

For Michigan, the most GOP was MI-2, the most Dem was MI-14.

Kerry's best was the primarily Seattle-based 7th, where Kerry received 79%.

Bush's best was the arid 4th, where he received 63%.

In NY Kerry's best district was NY-15 Rangel's district harlem/ Wash Heights, where he got just a tad under 90% of the vote and beat Bush by more than 80 points, NY-16 (Bronx) was close behind.   NY-29 Kuhl's district in western NY was Bush's best, won by about 14%

Bush's best was the arid 5th, where he received 63%.

Are you sure it's the 5th? The map shows that it's the 4th.

Sorry, yeah.  I confuse the two.

Spokane moderates the 5th; the 4th has the Tri-Cities, which hardly moderate anything.

In N.C., Kerry's best district was the 12th (62.5%) and Bush's best district was the 6th (69.4%).

As expected, Bush's best district was the southern NM 2nd (57.71%) and Kerry's best district was the northen NM 3rd (53.56%). Repeat indefinitely until NM either renumbers its districts, gerrymanders the hell out of them, or gets another seat. Wink

In Maine, Bush's best district was ME-02 (46.13%, 5.83% behind Kerry), while Kerry's best district was ME-01 (55.07%, 11.94% ahead of Bush).  Surprising that those two districts always seem to be the two extremes Wink.

Actually, in the 90s, both Clinton and either George H.W. Bush or Bob Dole got a higher % of the vote in the first district than in the second, where Perot did best in both 1992 and 1996.  But Clinton's margin over his Republican opponent (not the same is his percentage margin over his nearest opponent for the second district in 1992, mind you) was greater in District 2 than in District 1, for both the set of lines that existed at the time and the current set.

I would guess NJ-5 as the most Republican and NJ-13 as most Democratic but I'm not sure

NJ-10 is definitely more Democratic than NJ-13.

In Missouri, Bush's best district was MO-01, and Kerrys best district was MO-07.

I think those are reversed.

Which are the Tri-Cities, and how does Walla Walla vote?

Thanks in advance.

City of Connell.  The D>60 precinct had only 20 votes; the D>50 precinct was a very narrow win.  Overall, it voted McGavick by 12.  There's a significant Hispanic population there; whites are only a plurality.

The other precinct (rural) had 44 votes, and was 55% Cantwell.  I can't explain why; Kerry got 27%.  Let's just call it a blip.

(In my defense, I had to look that up...most of it.)

As you can probably guess, even though they're poorer, Franklin County whites are much more Republican than Benton County whites.  I'd characterize Benton County as a little more cosmopolitan, but it's still really Republican for a Washington metro area.

Walla Walla (assuming we're talking about the city) is Republican, but not hugely.  Bush won it by 13 points; Cantwell took it by 8.  The area is primarily Republican, save for the areas influenced by Whitman College.

I figured Whitman would cut into it.  Thanks for fielding a few weird questions all at once.

Whitman is too small to have a huge influence.

I think in CA, the best for Kerry was the 9th (Oakland), and Bush's best was the 22nd.

Bush's did best in CT-5, which he lost by 1100 votes, and I believe Kerry's best district CT-1, which I think he won with about 60%

AL 7 is definitely Democrat

AL 5 is probably the most even (voting Democrat in Congress & Republican for President)

AL 6 is the most Republican

The other 4 (AL 1,2,3 &4) are all clearly Republican as well.

Not that anyone cares six months after the fact, but the most Republican district in New Jersey is indeed Rodney Frelinghuysen's 11th (its position should be even further solidified as Bergen municipalities in the 5th sink deeper into the Blue this November), while the Newark based 10th (Payne) is easily more Democratic than Albio's 13th.

As Democratic as Hudson County is, there are still pockets of extreme wealth on the waterfront, and Republican can be guaranteed a good 30% of the vote there.  If there were pockets of wealth in Newark, the base GOP vote there wouldn't be a miserably low 10%.
