Any reason why the Lt Gov race is so close? Is the spelling correct or is it McClintock?

Yes, McClintock, the Republican in the recall that seemed almost likeable compared to phony asshole Arnold.

Anyways, not much money (compartively) is being spent on these lower level races, and Angelides' poor poll performance may be taking a toll on them. Unlike Arnold, McClintock doesn't hide his right-wing views, so it'll be interesting to see how that affects this race.

Yes, I put his full name so you wouldn't think it was some random dude with the last name Brown. Jerry Brown is probably the only politican who doesn't view having random lower level political positions after being California governor for 8 years as a demotion.  Jerry Brown was elected SOS at age 32, governor at age 36, and now he's about double those ages (68) and running for AG.

Anyways, he doesn't suffer from low name rec, and so is the best performing Democrat in the polls.

McClintock is a better candidate than you might think.  In 2002, which was a bad year for Republicans in California, he came within 16,000 votes of defeating Steve Westly for the Controller's spot, outrunning every other Republican who ran for state office that year.

Garemendi sucks!  He's been around the block way too much.  Of course, i'm voting for him but it won't be the end of the world for dems if he loses because we'll be finally rid of him and he won't (god willing) run for anymore statewide offices.  Though I agree with him on many things, he always comes off as a grandstanding buffoon.  How I wish Jackie Speier had won the primary to clean McClintock's clock and be set up for the gov race.  That said, if McClintock wins, he won't have any power as the LG does nothing and, if he's the GOP nominee for gov in 2010, I expect he'll lose convincingly.

I also wouldn't be too broken up about Bustamonte losing as Poizner seems like a decent guy and Bustamonte's in the pocket of corporate donors...

I'm hoping very much that the exceptional Debra Bowen wins and am also excited about John Chiang, who I think will be a very capable controller.

There's also Doug Wilder, whose now the mayor of Richmond after serving as Virginia Governor and running for President.

My former US Rep. from the '90s (Jon Fox) lost a race for state house in 2004.

Didn't John Quincy Adams also serve in the House after his Presidential term?

But still, that's pretty weird of Jerry Brown, maybe he's going for the record of most offices held.

Ain't that the truth.

I'm nauseated by the media cozying up to our do-nothing photo op governor.
