I'll take Warner in the No. 1 or 2 slot.

Surprise Surprise. Warner will make a fantastic Veep for the Dems as it will poise them to win tougher states like VA, NM, IA, and maybe even MO, without giving too much power to the right wing of the party at the same time.

Wait a minute...wasn't something along the lines of this tried already? Doesn't Edwards come off similarly to Warner?

I don't know if anyone's asked yet, but what're the chances of Warner reconsidering and throwing his hat back into the ring?

... depending on who is at the top of the ticket on both sides, of course.  After all, John Edwards was placed on the 2004 ticket for much the same reasons you gave, and they still lost all of those states.

Warner, a former governor, as VP?!

Question:  What has a governor been nominated as VP?

Well, one was appointed VP (Rockefeller under Ford).

Off the top of my head; Spiro Agnew, Calvin Coolidge, Earl Warren.  As Phil already said, Nelson Rockefeller was appointed.

I still think Warner would be better in the top spot... I dunno if there is another candidate besides Richardson or Edwards, who could remotely take on Hillary in the primaries.

Well, I guess I didn't call this like, 2 years ago. DUH Warner wants the VP slot.

Now, as then, I question his strategy. Being a loser as Veep is just not a great way to wind up as President one day. And as Hillary's sidekick, he'd be the underdog.

The smarter strategy-- not that Warner isn't smart-- would be to run for Gov again and then run in 2012 or 2016.

I suspect a lot of Dems expect Hillary to lose in '08 and are simply gearing up for a 2012 run. That's probably why Gore isn't running either.

Joe, although it is unclear I think the point Supersoulty was trying to make is that the Dems said the same thing about Edwards and he did nothing
