Pataki started out pretty well, but threw in the towel too early, and his last two terms have been a waste.
He's probably marginally better than a Democrat would have been, but his last two terms can only be viewed as wasted opportunities. And he's left the state's Republican party in total disarray.
Still, I'm grateful for what he did early in his tenure -- cutting taxes, stiffening criminal penalties, cutting welfare rolls. Those things never would have happened with a governor of the other party.
