The following statement was made on today's Fox News Channel programme called "The Cost of Freedom : Cavuto on Business" by the former mayor of New York, Ed Koch:

"Mayor Bloomberg should run as an Independent in '08 and educate the American nation in politics"

Therefore, based on what you know about Mayor Bloomberg, could I ask for a map and assessement of the 2008 race between McCain / Guliani (R), Clinton / Obama (D) and Bloomberg and who ever he would choose as a running mate for 2008 as the Independent candidate?

Especially if the Republican ticket was McCain/Giuliani. If it was a more Conservative ticket or one that appealed less to moderate Republicans he would have a much better shot. He might get some votes from Democrats who are estranged from Hillary Clinton especially if she goes down in the polls early and can't make up the deficit.

I can't figure out how to post a map, but it ends up along these lines:

Hillary runs with a Southerner (Edwards) and campaigns heavily there and in the midwest. Bloomberg gets a Southerner too, but they never crack 25% support anywhere.

The result? Guiliani delivers the Northeast by the slimmest of margins, while McCain brings in the Southwest. The South and the Midwest, on the other hand, get split so much by Bloomberg, that the Dems make huge gains. GA, NC, LA, AK, MI, and TN all go for the Dems but an equally slim margin as the Northeast.
