Option 1, of course, but I was wondering who the Republicans would back.

Smither... he is a credible candidate and MIGHT have had a real shot if the GOP had decided it would be better to back him than just hand the seat over. As it stands now Lampson will win easily.

I would write-in Tom DeLay, he's certainly less of a criminal than Bob Menendez and other Democrats, but b/c of the double standard he had to step down

Why shouldn't we?  All our ppl are forced to resign by scrupulous media coverage, yet your guys get to stay in there while under federal criminal investigation

I would vote for Bob Smither, he is likely to get a higher percentage than Gibbs.

As a Republican, why not vote for Smither?  It's not as if the Republicans have a solid candidate, they might as well vote Smither for economic conservatism and for beating Lampson.  (I mean they use that same line when they tell us libertarians we should vote for them)

Wow, Dems voting for Lampson is "a no brainer".  I'm shocked.

He may very well win, but the fact that he's at 35 and 36% against a write in candidate that he has outspent 15 - 1 is kind of telling.

Perhaps he can move to Michigan or Ohio or some place and you can actually all vote for him for real.  He'll be available after the 08 election unless of course the Texas Democratic Party can somehow figure out a way to keep the Republican candite off that ballot as well.
