Uh, the 47th Vice President will be the man (or woman) that takes the office of the Vice Presidency on January 20, 2009. So, it'd be the equivalent of naming Al Gore the 45th Vice President in November 1990 or Walter Mondale the 42nd Vice President of the United States in November 1974.

Mac, just curious, what do you expect to be the term lengths of each of your four administrations?  That would go very far in determining the placement of Barack Obama.  Right now, if all have four year terms, then the 45th President would be in office 2013-2017, 46th 2017-2021, and 47th 2021-2025.  Now, if each have 8 year terms, the result would be 44th 2009-2017, 45th 2017-2025, 46th 2025-2033, 47th 2033-2041.  That would mean Barack Obama as the 47th President would be 71 when he takes office (he was born August 1961).
