SC saying yes by a large margin to banning same-sex marriage. CNN calls Yes for Ohio raising the minimum wage.

CNN says that the South Dakota abortion ban will be defeated.

What about the gay marriage ban there?

"Yes" is ahead 52-48 with 69% reporting.  It'll probably narrowly pass.  I get the sense that if any other states try this, it may not pass because people are starting to get tired of it.

Social conservatism won the vast majority of proposals, but the GOP got swept.

All 7 of the South Carolina props passed including the odious Amendment 4.  It places a cap on property assessment increases (15% per 5 years unadjusted for inflation)  note that only the assessments got capped not the taxes, so basically this shifts the burden of property taxes onto those who don't live in a neighborhood with rapidly increasing property values, so this was basically the tax relief for lakefront and beachfront property owners amendment.  The one good thing is given the way our amendment process works, its still possible, but not likely to shoot this one down if the next Geeral Assembly fails to approve it.  (Amendments in SC requires two spearate Assemblies to approve it with a referendum in between as well.  However, given that out General Assembly has been spending a lot of time lately finding new ways to make our property taxes ever more regressive and hitting hardest on the working poor, I have little hope that the Assembly will do the sensible thing, even though the Republicans have seen their House majority narrowed by one or two seats.

That is EXACTLY the feeling I am getting about these gay marriage amendments....

Well, you have to remember what started the ball rolling.  No one wants to take these steps.  But the homosexual strategy is to wear down and tire the opposition, and, eventually, it will.
