No it didn't. Have a look at the districts they lost this year, or at the county maps from the Senate races they lost... or for that matter at the districts they were expected to lose, but didn't.


Foreign Policy, corruption and then social conservativism's negative impact in the Northern seats did the GOP in

Social conservatism did the republican party in. They cant win in the Northeast with it. Your going to have to have Rockefeller republicans.

As Al said, the interesting thing about 2006 is that it was the opposite, really: the most conservative and controversial GOP figures actually held on for the most part (I'm looking at Musgrave, Sensenbrenner, Schmidt...) while many moderate members were the ones ejected (Leach is the most prominent one who comes to mind).
