the only Democratic candidate I see having a shot at taking on McCain is Obama.  I really dont have an electoral theory or strategy to go along with that claim.  Call it a gut feeling.

Flame away.

Hillary can win.  Gore can win, if he runs.  Knowing the Democrats, there's bound to be some dark horse candidate we'll be talking about early next year.

I personally think Obama is running too quickly upon reaching the national scene, but that's probably just me.

And nothing is set in stone McCain will be the nominee.  There are two others who will be hard to beat and at least one of them is running for sure.

Who is the other candidate that is for sure running?

By the way, my post was based strictly on McCain winning the nomination, which I think is very likely after the whoopin the Republicans just took in the midterms.  He's about as close to a sure thing as there is.

Well, the other candidate that is for sure running is Mitt Romney.  Then there is Rudy Giuliani.  McCain is DEFINITELY not a sure thing.  In fact, I give him less than a 45% chance of being the nominee.  The odds are that McCain will collapse and Romney and Giuliani will be the ones competing for the nomination.

I think Hillary has a better shot against McCain than Obama. The latter is the Edwards of 2008... massively overrated.

Romney is the one who is running for sure.  The one who I suspect is running, but am not 100% sure is Giuliani.

Those are your three Republicans contenders.  McCain is nowhere near a sure bet.

If the base holds there noses for the overall good of the party and nominates McCain or Guilliani, there is no election.  The only way the Dems have a shot is if we pick a real conservative like Romney, Gingrich, Tancredo, or Allen.

Obama can't win. He has no experience and he hasnt accomplished anything in life. When he runs is he going to say, when I was a state senator, I cosponsered a bill calling for more pothole filling.

I totally agree. People don't understand that charisma and communication skills are the most important things in running for president.

No. 2008 was definitively a Democratic year for a number or reasons. Had Democratic Party nominate Clinton, Gore, even Edwards, they'd win anyway, maybe by less impressive margin than "landslide Barack" (best preformance since LBJ), but win.

Especially after Wall Street Crash, McCain was politically dead  candidate.

Obama won the highest Democratic percentage since LBJ.

Ah, that makes sense.  I was confused by his use of "landslide".
