I didn't think the article was that conservative.  Are you being sarcastic?

Let's brag that Webb is a proud left winger in a state that is still conservative! Landslide for Webb in 2012!

I could see it. Virginia may be socially conservative, but it certainly is not fiscally rightist. There are relatively few states in which such an editorial would play poorly (think Mountain West, Arizona and New Hampshire).

I agree, although I'd even venture that it wouldn't play badly in the Mountain West.  Just because they don't like government intervention doesn't at all mean they won't (somewhat hypocritically) support government pork to them.

Economic populists are the best kind of Democrats. Luckily, the country elected quite a few new ones last Tuesday.

A year ago at this time, the thought of electing Webb was ridiculous. I love how you are predicting six years into the future.

He's not predicting anything; he's saying something is likely.

Ok then let me revise my statement.

A year ago at this time, the thought that Jim Webb would likely get elected was ridiculous. I love how Eraserhead can say that something is likely to happen six years into the future with a guy who just barely won and is not representing a safe state.

What a dumb article. He says nothing about what he actually wants to do. And I love how he quotes a survey warning America not to become anti-globalization as support for his stand - which seems to be exactly that. The point of the survey was that there is a risk idiots like Webb are listened to.

A risk to whom, Gustaf?  Political economy is always about interests of different groups - the status quo is designed to benefit only the owning class.  One can hardly call others 'idiots' for wanting a wee bit of that privilege given back to them...

Gustaf's fascist outburst aside, Webb will be very easily re-elected in 2012 - not only will he be firmly ensconced, Virginia will have moved 6 more years to the left, which in that state is very significant.

No, the point of the survey was that there is a risk "idiots like Webb" aren't listened to.
