Test 1, Brisbane, GABBA:

Australia 9/602.

England 3/53.

Ouch.

Yeah, it's not been a good start. I blame the people who picked the team Tongue

(Seriously, why wasn't Monty picked for this test?)

Not met anyone who seriously thinks that Australia will lose a series like this in Australia anyway.

Still, there's competitive and then there's England...

Brisbane was always going to be the hardest test fior you guys, and especially with the way the weather is atm up there, you would've expected to lose or draw the test anyway, but you'd hope for a better showing. That said, as long as England get smashed in the first three tests the rest can be as tight as you want. Let's hope for great cricket come the fourth test Smiley

Hoped for better, yes, but to be honest I'd been expecting something like this.
England do usually do badly towards the beginning of any series against anyone o/c. Not sure why.

I have no idea either. What do the numbers on the first post mean?

9/602: 9 out for 602 runs. Generally, a team's over finishes when 10 of their 11 players are eliminated from batting, but because they absolutely smashed the poms to pieces, the Australian team declared at 9 out for 602 runs, which is a very, very, very good score for anyone else, but only reasonable for Australia (Wink)

England, on the other hand, have 3 out for 53 runs, although play has just started (I think) on the third day of play (each test is a game of 4-5 days length...two innings each, basically) swo soon enough they'll be about 4/80.

Last year the English won the ashes for the first time since the '80s, and they won it whilst it was hosted in England, by a very, very, VERY narrow margin. It won't happen again for another 15 years, and certainly not on home soil.

Er, I hardly drink alcohol. But bitter does actually taste best at something around room tempreture.

I think it's pretty obvious.  Basically, the Australians are leading the Brits in the seventh quarter, mainly because they've hit the puck over the flag more times.  The Brits had better have a damn good reserve line backer if they've any hope of getting the ball anywhere near the hoops.

*sigh*

This always happens when the other side gets a big score...

Can't they just concede this test and move onto the next one? Tongue

Might as well mention the rugby as well. Wales are losing to New Zealand and will probably lose by a lot; not a suprise as we've not beaten them since 1953. Oh well.

England however have just lost their 8th match in 9 games! Cheesy (I hate the England rugby team, btw).

Oh and Australia demolished Scotland. Which is even less of a "suprise" than Wales losing to New Zealand.

Once again proving after we beat the Aussies and the Springboks (not to mention the glorious victory tommorow over the Pacific Islanders)

Ireland = Kings of rugby errr, except New Zealand (Better than Wales anyway Tongue )

I've jinxed it now.

oh dear. Australia shouldn't have declared the second innings at just over 200. England now have a slight chance.

Gabu, I think there's a cup, which apparently a bunch of people with weird accents want.  I'm not sure whether this is a drinking cup or a sports cup, but based on the coherence of this conversation, I'd guess the former.  I'll keep you updated as I figure out more.

Actually what both sides want is a tiny urn with the ashes of a few burnt sticks in it.

326-7 now. Respectable (unlike the first innings), but it's basically over.
