Is today.

Incumbent Liberal M.P Joe Fontana resigned so he could run for Mayor of London (he lost in a landslide).

Anyway, there's a distinct possibility that the Liberals could lose this; both the Tories and NDP are serious threats and the Greenies are running their new leader.

In other news, it seems to be snowing a little bit in Bangor today. It came straight after heavy rain and there wasn't much of it, so o/c nothing will stick.

I used to live in London for several years, and it was a bit like Victoria with so many retirees. It also has many university students and blue collar workers.

In other news, it snowed perhaps 30 cm over the weekend here in Victoria. School was thus closed (heavy snow is rare in southern BC, and even rarer in November), which gives me an extra day of weekend...to finish some college applications and a ton of school essays. Yay!! Cheesy

Victoria is in London... and it's NOT what I'd call blue collar.

The most blue-collar of the three London ridings is London-Fanshawe; which o/c fell to the NDP (just) in January. The Liberal candidate in this by-election was the unsuccesful Liberal candidate in London-Fanshawe.
North Centre is the one with the most students IIRC.

Interestingly enough, one of the GLA constituencies could be called North Central; the North East constituency (Waltham Forest, Hackney, Islington). East rather than Central makes sense from a historical point of view o/c.

Silly non Canadians (and Brits) should know better!

Anyways, dont forget the race in Repentigny! Canada's first former gay prostitute MP will be elected in a landslide no doubt.

Results come in at 8:30 (2 hours, 15 m)

With 1 poll reporting from LNC,

NDP 13 votes
Green 8 votes
Conservative 4
Liberal 3

Obviously a left leaning poll.

Disappointing for the NDP who is in fourth place. We really hoped we could win the seat.

For once, other parties are spoling an election for the Greens.

Ya know what, how about a BQ Wing in British Columbia or Alberta? That would be a unique idea.

The Quebec Party of Alberta.

Waste of resources. Actually, this reminds me a story of an American friend of mine who asked the BQ leader Gilles Duceppe about expanding his party outside of Quebec. I forget what he said his reaction was... Anyways, it's the equivelant of PC or the SNP running in the rest of Great Britain.

Speaking of the BQ, the results so far from Repentigny

Canadian Action   Mahmood Raza Baig   51   0.3   0.3%
N.D.P.   Réjean Bellemare   1,171   6.7   6.7%
Conservative   Stéphane Bourgon   3,186   18.3   18.3%
Bloc Québécois   Raymond Gravel   11,759   67.7   67.7%
Independent   Jocelyne Leduc   209   1.2   1.2%
Independent   Régent Millette   41   0.2   0.2%
Liberal   Christian Turenne   964   5.5   5.5%

135/217 polls.

As for LNC...

Preliminary Results
London North Centre   Last updated: 22:01 ET

Party   Candidate   Votes   % Votes
Canadian Action   Will Arlow   49   0.1   0.1%
Independent   Robert Ede   68   0.2   0.2%
Conservative   Dianne Haskett   8,434   24.3   24.3%
PC Party   Steve Hunter   132   0.4   0.4%
Green Party   Elizabeth May   9,091   26.1   26.1%
Liberal   Glen Pearson   12,064   34.7   34.7%
N.D.P.   Megan Walker   4,939   14.2   14.2%

235/253

Close race for second.

Well, you do have to pay to run as a candidate. (to get on the ballot). That money can be best spent elsewhere.

I could see the BQ expanding to Francophone areas outside Quebec if it had a vision of a Greater Quebec.
