How can anyone disapprove of that?

It's not so much a matter of disapproval, but of not wanting your child to get hurt.

In many live-in relationships, one partner wants a commitment while the other does not.  The partner who wants the commitment, but settles for something less than that in the hope of getting it later, often ends up getting hurt.

Yes, but with marriages, if you get dumped, you take the other party to the cleaners, assuming there's some money to get ahold of.  You can't do that with a live-in relationship.

(Out of curiosity, not that one can really know, I suppose.)

actually, it's weird that I said that, bc I absolutely dont think its a choice.  I meant "his/her life" or something like that, but "choice" came out bc it's typical phraseology.  hrm.
