While slightly humorous, it does add a week to the election schedule, thereby allowing the Governors more time to get a district plan together.  It also is not without precedent for legislatures to meddle with time.  The South Carolina General Assembly, which has a firm date by which it must adjourn, has on occasion lengthened the final day to contain more than 24 hours so as to get needed business done.  (Since they still only get one day's per diem even if the day is longer than one day, they try to avoid that "solution" and it's been a while since they last did it.)  I do have an idea for a more permanent solution for this problem, but as my idea would require a constitutional amendment which would take too much time, I shall wait until the Seventeenth Senate to introduce my idea.
