McGovern on the 1980 primary by a 62/38 margin and he won 58 of 66 counties.

McGovern was a top target of groups critical of his stances on abortion, the Panama canal and foreign policy.

Larry Schumaker was McGovern's opponent, and he has grown up in South Dakota, and didn't live there from 1961 to 1979. Schumaker was also supported by pro-life groups.

If you want county maps without the huge amounts of black, just press "print screen" and copy and crop the county map.

The 1980 Senate results by district.

CD01: 53/45 Abdnor
CD02: 63/34 Abdnor

Abdnor was the Congressman from the Second District.

Or copy it in Internet Explorer.
