You've gotta be kidding me that these people are stupid enough to reelect someone who was taped accepting a $100,000 bribe.

They re-elected Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin, so I wouldn't put this past them.

NOLA is dead to me if they re-elect this bastard. There's not much to like about Louisiana.

Jefferson is the more conservative of the two candidates by far. He voted for the anti-gay marriage amendment and CAFTA. Republicans will break for him heavily, that's one concern.

Jefferson aired commercials saying Carter supported same sex marriage and partial birth abortion and human cloning.

He voted for CAFTA because it would help some industries in New Orleans. Most of Louisiana's Delegation voted against it.

52-48 last I checked.

Re-elect Jefferson, let him get indicted and then the seat is vacated and someone better than Carter or Jefferson can get elected.

Who is there better than Karen Carter? All of the prominent local Democrats ran in the initial election. Shepherd and Troy Carter are the only other real possibilities. Shepherd's as corrupt as Jefferson, and Carter has more in common with Carter than a last name.

Yep, Jefferson's gonna most likely win with those numbers.

What the Democrats need to do is write off whacko areas of the south like Louisiana and concentrate on reducing the Republicans to just the Dixiecrat core in the south, and beating their asses elsewhere. The south is a bunch of hopelessly corrupt assholes who need to be made irrelevant. In 2008, the Democrats need to target every last Republican still remaining in the north-east and most of the rest of the non southern Republicans.

Carter will most likely be sitting in that seat in 2008 regardless of what happens now.

But it's going to look pretty bad if she isn't in January Sad

Looks like (100,000) dollar bill won.

BTW, NOLA isn't going to be getting much aid with such a compromised
representative. But like the rest of the south, they value corruption over competance. We need to write off the south, and make them irrelevant.

It's really, really depressing that Jefferson is winning so big, 58-42.

It helps ones sanity if one pretends the south is a different country.

Back to the uber-pessimistic phase you were in when you kept insisting Santorum would win?

Jefferson would have to take about half of the votes not cast for him or Carter to get that, which is pretty unlikely since all the non-Jefferson voters obviously didn't vote for him for a reason. He might get a good chunk of the approx. 15% that voted for Republican candidates, but I don't see much more.

Gimme mad props, Zach!

I'm trying to figure out which is more amusing:  Jefferson winning or fernie's comments on this thread about the South.

Can Jefferson be denied the Democratic House Whip? It's pathetic when Democrats can't clear out their own sh**t Angry

Is there anyone better? I think as Verily pointed out everyone else is basically just as corrupt as Jefferson.

Confusion of U.S and British political terms here methinks. Dave means is there any way of throwing him out of the caucus.

I was thinking Nagin back before Katrina.

Carter just gave a concession speech.

Oh. Well in that case, I sure hope so. Although I guess they can't technically do it until Jefferson is at least actually indicted (sigh). If Pelosi and Co. tried to do it before that the Black Caucus would lay an egg. Frickin idiots.

If he does get indicted though, I expect him to be expelled the next day. Period. None of this bullsh**t like the Republicans did with Bob Ney keeping him on the Congressional payroll after it was clear that he was guilty. We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Precinct-by-precinct results for this race from LA SOS.  They don't help me much, because I don't know where the precincts are, actually.

http://www.sos.louisiana.gov:8090/cgibin/?rqstyp=elcmp&rqsdta=12090614519063

All of the outstanding precincts are in Orleans Parish and right now Carter is leading in that parish slightly.  But she got absolutely killed in Jefferson Parish, pretty ugly all told.

Hahahaha....  yeah, we held ourselves to a higher standard too, for about 6 months.  There is no limit to the ability of Washington D.C. to corrupt an individual, regardless of party, morality, or ideology.

Arrgh, I found a precinct map for the area from 2000 but the names are totally off in both parishes.
