This was taken at the Iranian Holocaust Denier's Slumber Party Bash (with the amazing David Duke in attendance, too)...

Am I the only one to find this to be one of the most confusing pictures ever taken?

You don't find this even the least bit confusing?

Uh, no. He's shaking hands with someone who has the same view as he himself has as regards the polity of Israel. They may or may not share views on the Holocaust - it's not entirely clear to me what Ahmadinejad's views on the Holocaust are, exactly, except for the argument that it cannot be used to legitimate the existence of Israel. Nor do I know what this rabbi's views on that issue are.

Of course Ahmadinejad invited Jews to his silly conference, as an exotic touch of colour [and to highlight to the West (what everybody *should* be aware of anyways), that exterminating world jewry is not part of Israel's foes' agenda.]
Duke's probably there for the same reason - to an Iranian audience who's not aware of Duke's record, he's just an American politician who's at their side.

Well, maybe the rabbi, for whatever reason, denies the Holocaust. Ahmadinejad's views are clearly stated though - he does not believe such an event could ever have occured.

I understand but it is still very strange to see one of the world's most vocal anti-Semites shaking hands with a rabbi.

This guy is ultra-orthodox and anti-Zionist. He recognizes and clamp the existence of the Shoah, but is firmly opposed to the existence of a Jewish state in the Middle East - it is there its only common point with Ahmadinejad, and this is why he attends this meeting -.

Ahmadinejad has probably shaken hands with Iran's Jewish MP several times before.

The Jew in the picture is likely a Neturei Karta or a Satmar Hassidic.
