What I find funny is the abstinence people questioning the results of the survey.

Abstinence isn't a bad thing; it is just completely unnatural.  In fact children are starting puberty earlier and earlier now and therefore want to have sex earlier.

If anything the religious people should be pushing for earlier marriages than abstinence.

Not necessarily.  Back in the 19th century when getting married before 20 was common, divorce was unheard of.
