The Political Matrix has found a new location.  It can be found here:

The URL is:

I've also corrected some in the explanations.  Suggestions are always welcome.

So far, the only frequently asked question is "When is the FAQ coming?", which would kind of defeat the purpose.  Tongue

I'd still happily listen to feedback, but as bad as the test may be, at least the questions are political (unlike the Political Compass).  I could have screwed everything else up and it still would probably be more accurate than the PC with its cultural questions.

But Cultural issues are just as important to one's viewpoints as strictly political ones, after all Cultural question ask "which type of society is more ideal to you?" the Matrix just deals with political issues of the here and now in America. (Okay, maybe that question about Astrology is a bit strange).

But my major problem with Matrix is that it has me down as an Anarchist - or even worse - a John Kerry type Liberal.

Either way, It's just fun-a silly little test.

The political compass's questions such as "It is natural for a child to keep secrets from their parents." and things like that push my score further left than it really is.

The political matrix is much more accurate. Not to mention there is a neutral option for things I really don't care about one way or the other (like legalizing marijuana).

Very true. The major problem with the political compass is it's last page of questions regarding sex. It really tends to skew your social results one way or the other...not to mention that most of the questions are toyed with to encourage liberal answers. I personally like the Matrix much better. When I want to get my friends to figure out their political nature...I always offer them the Matrix, and never that horrid Compass crap.

I scored Economic score: -3.87
Social score: -5.22

Although a number of moderating answers were of the "well, technically yes" type, and I laid off the "important to me" feature entirely, so this skewed results centrewards.

The real problem is that the Matrix - and the Compass to a lesser extent - really tests uninformed center-right vs uninformed dead-centre positions. Tongue

Your score pegs you as economically moderately leftist and socially moderately libertarian.

Moderate economic leftists generally support regulation of free trade and business to assure that workers are fairly treated and prices remain stable.

Moderate social libertarians generally favour a hands-off approach to social legislation. They may believe that the government has no right to enforce morals, but may support certain controls on individual rights to avoid crime, drug use, or similar social ills.

Sounds about right.  I always figured the PC always pegged me as a bit more libertarian than I am.

Though I have a distrust of those in a position to abuse power, abuse of power is not limited to the government by any means.

Question for the FAQs: What are the breakdowns for your labels - what range of numbers do you use for socialist, moderate, capitalist, and so on.  Ditto for the social numbers.

One thing you could add is an explanation of precisely what the categories and what one's position on the map mean.  It's technically not a frequently asked question, but it's a source of confusion for many people nonetheless.
