Wow; a 3 point swing.  I've never had a swing like that.

     The first two times I took it (back in late 2006), my social PM score changed from +7.6 to +4.41.

what caused the dramatic social shift? Smiley (It's gotten much lower than +4.41, after all)

I've lost interest in the forum and I've wasted far too much time here.

To those I consider forum friends, it's been nice and I hope to keep contact in some form.

Economic Score: +0.52 (0.00)
Social Score: -6.96 (-6.96)

Your score pegs you as economically centrist and socially libertarian.

Economic centrists generally support economic policy that they see as fit for specific situations, although they may have different views relating to taxes and regulation.

Social libertarians generally believe that the government should not judge morality, and are generally against the illegalization of things that do not directly affect other people in a negative way. Many strong social libertarians may also be social progressives, favouring legislation to correct what they see as socially backwards governmental regulation, although some simply wish for the government to make little judgment on social matters.

Conor's Commentary: "I'm not surprised at all with a rightward shift on my views on economic policy, yet, I'm not sure exactly what caused it this time. The next time I decide to do the test, whenever that might be I am making a "bold" prediction: my economic views will swing once more!

Economic score: +4.52
Social score: -8.87

A swing towards the social left to reflect my increasing prioritization of abortion rights, gay rights, civil liberties and being slightly more in favor of assisted suicide. Old score had the same economic score but social was -6.43.

Finally settled on a stance on minimum wage, so I took this over:

Quote
Economic score: +6.52
Social score: -5.65

Your score pegs you as economically capitalist and socially moderately libertarian.

Capitalists generally support an open free market and lower taxes, but also support government restrictions on blatantly abusive industry. Capitalists also often differ from their more extreme peers in that, while they may support significantly lower taxes, they are less apt to support complete elimination of taxation or near-complete elimination of government.

Moderate social libertarians generally favor a hands-off approach to social legislation. They may believe that the government has no right to enforce morals, but may support certain controls on individual rights to avoid crime, drug use, or similar social ills.

The 'mainstream' is significantly to the right of you or this forum. I may be open to free marketism on a lot but it's not like I'm calling for the fair tax or anything like some people...

     Indeed. Outside of the Rust Belt & a few large cities, negative economic PM scores probably would be the exception, not the rule.

The unique misfortune of the Palestinian refugees is that they are a weapon in what seems to be a permanent war...today, in the Middle East, you get a repeated sinking sensation about the Palestinian refugees: they are only a beginning, not an end. Their function is to hang around and be constantly useful as a goad. The ultimate aim is not such humane small potatoes as repatriating refugees.

Social score: -5.57

Your score pegs you as economically moderately leftist and socially libertarian.

Moderate economic leftists generally support regulation of free trade and business to assure that workers are fairly treated and prices remain stable.

     Americans like the nanny-state for themselves & oppose it for other people. Why else do you think they constantly want new programs & simultaneously want a balanced budget? I suppose the lesson here is that the public has no economic ideology outside of extreme self-centeredness & hypocrisy.

As cynical as I am, I don't think the public is nearly that bad. I do think a lot of people are irrational on the subject of taxation, but even then a lot of polls indicated that the public preferred a balanced budget and/or public investment to more tax cuts back at the start of the W era. From what I've seen people basically are OK with some programs (mostly in areas like healthcare, retirement or education) but the majority are pro trade and opposed to what they perceive as hand outs... In other words, somewhere in the center to center right by 'american' standards (which are 'far right' compared to Europe).

     I moved somewhat to the left this time:

Economic: +8.19 --> +7.68
Social: -3.39 --> -4.26

     This probably reflects my true feelings better than my previous results, since the phrasing of the taxation question really throws me off.
