These flags were the flag of the CSA once:

And this is the Naval Jack:

For the sake of accuracy, Please move towards using the stainless banner or Stars and Bars. Your navy was not that prominent in the Civil War.

The flag on top of the Dukes car was not the CSA flag.

The flag shown here ( http://www.higginsvillechamber.org/memorial.aspx ) was not the CSA flag.

The flag featured in the Mississippi flag is the Battle Flag.

The flag that was the center of controversy in South Carolina is the Naval Jack.

So, resolved.

Confederacy fans will either use the correctly proportioned battle flag, or one of the CSA flags. Unless there is some good reason to use the Naval Jack.

Everybody else will learn the difference between the Naval Jack and the other Confederate flags.

No more "These colors don't run" Confederate products. Your side got it's ass whipped. Those colors definately ran, especially in Georgia, from Sherman.

Ok, that should cover everything.

This should prove an interesting thread.  Though I have no idea what it's doing in US General Discussion.

Every person I've ever known with a Confederate flag who wasn't just doing it to be "cool" (there are plenty of those people, especially in Pennsylvania) knows about the history of the various Confederate flags ("Stars and Bars") etc.

I have countless relatives who died fighting the Civil War.  Lines like this do not make me a nice person to deal with:

"Those colors definately ran, especially in Georgia, from Sherman."

So, I would kindly ask you to get your head out of your ass and shut up.

Does that mean all Germans who had relatives that fought in WWI should get riled up and angry every time someone insults the swastika? Or all Russians who had relatives that fought in WWII should get angry every time someone insults the Red flag? Or all Japanese, etc...

In addition, there are many people whom I would not be ashamed to say: your relatives, sir, are a beast. And they would agree.

Never mind that- it all seems rather pedantic, arguing over the 'correct' flag.

Yeah yeah.

Just saying, saying that "these colors" don't run for an entity that lost and surrendered is not true.

Maybe I just added a low shot or two though.

If there was ever an issue in which people get a little too worked up over, it's the confederate flag. Both sides take it much, much too seriously...

If anything, the flag is just a historical symbol of a country that didn't make it. It's not sign of hatred, and isn't (or at least shouldn't be) a symbol of pride.

Maybe it's because my heritage and pride both rest in a country that had little if any involvement in the conflict...but I find the whole issue to be rather stupid.

I wish the legislature had the balls to take the offensive image of our state flag.

In apology, Mississippi ought to stop sending Representatives and Senators to Washington.

Yes, they should send them to Richmond instead. Smiley

Yeah. I don't really go that far when it comes to the flags. The Confederacy is over-romanticized though.

My objections are merely anal-esque, not for any sort of emotional reason.

Which is worse too. Wink

And actually the "naval jack" was used both by the navy and in some units in the Army of Tennessee.

Example of a typical ANV flag :

Example of a AOT flag :

Those were military flags, the flags you posted were pretty much examples of Government flags. Their's a difference between the two.

Well, since it's flown alongside or in the place of the stars and stripes, one could assume from this that they're stated as being equivalent, when they certainly are not, given that this would be the Union equivalent to the Confederate naval jack.

Yeah, the Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia and the Naval Jack are also different in size.

I think the NoVa flag is a square and the Naval Jack is a rectangle too.

One of the main reasons why the Confederacy got rid of the "stars and "bars" was because on the battle field Union and Confederate got confused as to which flag was the one for their side.

As far as your comment, it is below the line, especially for those of us who were actually told about what happened during those days.  I was fortunate to have a grandfather (who has since died) who knew his grandfather very well and who was told all the stories about his time fighting during the Civil War, which he told me.  Whether they were entirely true or not, my great-great-grandfather was very fortunate to have made it through the Civil War, fighting from 1862 to the end in 1865.

I have great respect for what they did, even though I wonder if you do.

And for Christmas, i'll get the member title of "Yankee Bastard"

As for the flags, the stainless banner got ditched due to confusion with a flag for surrender.

And yeah, in the future, i'll refrain from comments like that. Considering that what was involved in the March included a lot of things considered war crimes these days.

I'll also separate the opinion of the people fighting for the Confederacy from my opinion of the Confederacy.

My opinion of the Confederacy being that if they were allowed to be Independent, there wouldn't be any real good to come out of that arrangement, and that it would further legitimize something that is basically evil, and which should have been abolished a long time before 1865. (Then again, those things take time).

In the scheme of things, there's not really a concievable scenario where the world would have been better off had the Confederacy stayed a nation, or won the war.

But that's all another discussion.

At the very least, the people fighting mainly to keep slavery were probably a minority in the armies, and a good number of people fighting were drafted too.

Yeah, i'm definately getting the member title of "Yankee Bastard"

That sounds like the invitation for a signature-based war of pictures.
