who do you feel a closer connection or kinship to...great britain or canada?

the uk for me.  not only because my people came from there, but they seem to be the most  pro-american.

the canadians...ugh.  no offense to any canadian on the board, but theyve always struck me as know-it-alls.  the time i was accosted at the border like a common terrorist didnt help my opinion any.  but, in fairness, that was quebec.

For me personally -neither.  Though it's possible that the old colonial feeling of kinship with the mother country still lingers in the hearts of most Anglo Americans...

That's funny, because I've crossed the border into Ontario a couple times now, and I found their security to be a bit lax if anything.  All I had to do was answer the usual basic questions and they waved me on through.  Didn't even ask me for ID or anything, pretty much took me at face value.

On the other hand, coming back to the US the first words out of their mouth were to ask for my ID.  Not that they gave me a big hassle or anything.

Maybe it's just the Quebec people.  (Or maybe you just look like a terrorist?)

Canada.  I go into Canada many times yearly, have taken many trips there, and have even become good friends with some  Canadians through poker, seeing shows, etc. They're all pretty swell people.

I like both countries, but I feel more conected to Canada for North American reasons.

I will attempt to answer this question by replacing Canada with the USA. I have distant American ancentry and much British ancestry. I feel more of a connection to American politics and culture than British, but there is a love for the mother country too.  They are housing our Queen after all

well, Canada is probably a lot closer to Australia than GB in terms of the perople and stuff, but personally I feel no real connection with Canada but a slight connection to the UK because of my welsh grandma. Really, I only feel a connection to Wales, not to the UK, I suppose. I feel closer to the US than both, but only slightly, and much closer to NZ than the US.

To be completely fair, I don't think the Canadians are exactly crazy about you either.

Oh, and I pick Canada, since I am half Canadian and b/c it is a MUCH cooler country than Great Britain.

Canada since my grandmother was from Newfoundland and I have a good number of relatives in both Newfoundland and Ottawa. It just seems much closer to my everyday life than the United Kingdom does.

However I still have a good amount of attachment to the UK, that is where I good majority of my ancestors came from.

Canada, although I've only been to Montreal and Quebec City, both obviously located in Quebec. I can't imagine Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, etc. being any different from a typical American city, though.

Toronto is pretty similar to an American city.  There are some minor differences if you look for them, but mostly it's about the same.
