According to amateur video, Saddam was composed and taunted those present at his murder.

One wonders if our little despot would have handled himself with such aplomb.

He did have quite alot of composure, he had a hard life, his response to thier taunts was what I expected, he can certainly be respected for his toughness.

Such composure on the part of Saddam comes as no surprise given that he was a psychopath. It has sweet bugger all to do with aplomb

Smart-arse Roll Eyes. Aplomb refers to "calm self-possession". What's calm about taunting those present at justice being done?

Might have conducted himself with aplomb had he remained silent

After his past displays of cowardice the answer is obvious.

Well if you have been basically a glorified hit man most of your lfie and a meglomaniac then usually a few cat calls and insults don't really hit you deep down. I mean if you've seen guys murdered and ordered their murders as well as killed millions in genocidal purges you build up a certain fortress for insult.

*ZING*

Anyway, this is a perfect display of the difference between "courageous" and "brave".  Anyone, even the most evil person can be brave, because bravery is only about facing the moment without fear... or at least being able to control it.  Courage is doing the right thing inspite of fear and obsiticles.

Ernst Rohm died well.  So did a number of the Nazis after Nuremberg.

In the "Sunni triangle" in Iraq, people are mourning Saddam as if a prophet died.

Can you blame them?  He is symbolic of their national pride, and his demise is symbolic of the brutalization they have faced at the hands of the americans.

Not to mention the brutalization they have faced from Shia'a death squads.
