State Senator Jim McDermott (Blue) - 321256 (56%)
Governor Dixy Lee Ray (Red) - 234252 (41%)

Ray basically pissed off various influencial state Democrats, while also advocating super-tankers and nuclear power. She went on to endorse Reagan in 1984.

Washingtonians can probably add some more to the significance of this map.

This was one of the weirdest elections in Washington. The first female governor was not the greatest, and I will never truly understand how a marine biologist became the Washington governor. My state is one of the weirdest.
