New Election: 1972 Alabama Senatorial General Election Results

George W. Bush was working for the Blount campaign in the Summer of 72. It didn't really help Blount out.

How did LeFlore win two counties with only 3% of the vote?

In LeFlore's 10 best counties, the results were

Sparkman - 28948 (50.47%)
LeFlore - 15976 (27.85%)
Blount - 11597 (20.22%)
Other - 834 (1.45%)

In the rest of the state, the results were

Sparkman - 625,543 (62.95%)
Blount - 335,926 (33.80%)
LeFlore - 15,445 (1.55%)
Other - 16,830 (1.69%)

Basically, he got over half his votes from 10 counties.

Who was LeFlore?  I've never seen such a localized cluster of votes.

LeFlore was running with the NDPA, which was a party formed when the Alabama Democratic Party was controlled by George Wallace.

The NDPA also endorsed McGovern in 1972.
