It could be either Mabus or Musgrove who challenge Barbour, however, I think Barbour would be favoured.
Musgrove is very likely to run for lt. gov., and with a bloody Republican primary for lt. gov. brewing, Musgrove has a pretty good shot of victory.

no, Mabus will win.  And I'm not being like half of the Republicans on this forum blindly believeing that Healey would win only to see her get creamed.  Mabus has a real chance of victory, and even if he lost, he wouldn't get less than 45%.

Why?  Is Amy Tuck running again?

no she's term limited.  I suspect she may run for Pickering's House seat in '08 when Pickering runs for the Senate, but who knows.

The Republican primary for lt. gov. will be between Auditor Phil Bryant (a reasonable guy in the mold of Thad Cochran, though he still won't get my vote) and State Sen. Charlie Ross (a massive redneck, much moreso that Lott and Wicker put together).  Bryant will probably win, but be weakened, hopefully enough for Musgrove to squeak by.  If Ross wins the primary, Musgrove will be the favorite in the general.

This far in advance, Barbour is the clear favorite.

Mabus/Musgrove?  Wow.  The only two Democratic MS governors to be defeated by Republicans ever.  That oughta do it.

they also won, though, in a time when it was hard for Democrats to win.  They've proven they can win statewide in Mississippi when we're not solidly Democratic anymore, but solidly Republican.

He's not "highly" popular...he's got some wide support, but it's not that deep.  Until Katrina, he was pretty unpopular, and Mabus is going to remind them of that.

wanna bet?
