Sen. Gregg has a 99% rating.  I know that NH is the most Republican of the New England states but this just doesn't seem right.  Shouldn't they be more moderate or something?

I knew that Sununu and Gregg were very out of step with their state, but I am surprised that they are this conservative. If you score 100% on a Club For Growth report card, it's pretty safe to say you are a Wingnut Extraordinaire.

Well, two Democrats (Steven Marchand and Katrina Swett) have already declared to challenge Sununu, and 2-3 others (Gary Hirshberg, Dave Gottesman and Jeanne Shaheen) are seriously considering and will announce decisions in the next few weeks.

Sununu will have a very tough race on his hands in 2008.

I thought the Club for Growth covered fiscal issues strictly, and isn't New Hampshire well known for its fiscal conservatism? Didn't Gov. Lynch sign a no income tax pledge?

I'm not sure that negative advertisements featuring a foreboding announcer saying "John Sununu received a 100% rating from the extremist Club for Growth ..." will play very well in New Hampshire, or any other state really.

Sununu is nowhere near as offensive and extreme as Santorum, but they are alike in the fact that are both are pretty well to the right of their respective states.

I totally agree. This was much of the Republicans' strategy in 2006, tying Democratic candidates to progressive groups like Moveon.org or Democratic politicians like Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi.......and people for the most part don't understand or don't care.

Walter, if you were in Congress, the Club For Growth would label you a "RINO" and would spend millions of dollars backing some whackjob to beat you in the primary.

Not really.  Club for growth has actually become more economic conservatism rather than fiscal conservatism in that sense. ala big business conservative, and they are socially conservative as well, as they attacked Chafee on his stances on abortion, gay rights, etc during the GOP primaries.

Just so everyone knows, a 100% rating from Glub for Growth doesn't mean Sununu isn't some archconservative- he joined the Democrats on the filibuster of the Patriot Act, voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment, and against the proposed delisting of coal from the Clean Air Act.

Well, this will help with Sununu's Santorumization. The ad practically writes itself.
