Really interesting map Nick.

What if all the people in those states were swapped with the people in the countries that are closest in GNP? So all the Dutch people are somhow teleported to PA and all Pennsylvanians teleported to the Netherlands? Alabama wouldn't change much, nor would Minnesota they'd still have mostly Scandinavian people, but Wisconsin would be alot Blacker to say the least and a Communist government in Rhode Island, priceless.

The US would be overpopulated as hell ...It would be funny (not funny Tongue) to watch 140 million Nigerians be stuffed onto the Islands of Hawai...

And:

Not quite right this map:

Russia´s GDP surpassed 1 trillion dollars, NJ had about 430 Billion dollars.

Austria is comparable to Massachusetts, not with Virginia.

But otherwise a nice idea.

Alabama insists its nuclear research is for civil purposes, but I don't believe them.

Minnesota's is quite appropiate. Although I'm surprised, we have roughly equal population to Norway, but they have vast oil reserves. I'd think they'd be higher as a result.

I suspect the figures are a bit off, BRTD.. Norway has a much higher per capita GDP than the US.

It's GNP not GDP. GNP is the total monetary value of final goods and service produced by Nationals, ie a Toyota factory in the United States would count towards Japan's GNP, whereas GDP is the monetary amount of all final goods and services produced within a certain country. GNP is usually lower than GDP if your country has a large foreign workforce and GNP is higher than GDP if you have a lot of people working overseas as well as near full employment in your own country.

With Iowa rapidly nationalizing all foreign industries within its borders, it's GNP has surely been recently rising.

Not much of a difference. The US GDP is 99,9% of the US GNP.

Q3 2006 US GDP was 13.327,1 Bio. $
Q3 2006 US GNP was 13.341,2 Bio. $

It´s not much different with Austria. Its GDP is 101% of its GNP.

2005 GDP was 245,1 Bio. €
2005 GNP was 242,6 Bio €

FYI: I compared the GDP of Virginia with the GDP of Austria.
