I'm not entirely sure what the point of this excercise is but I chose Point Roberts because it is closest to more large cities than the Northwest Angle.  I wouldn't really want to live in either place though given that I am not a big fan of coldness.  I'm considering a move southward after I graduate.  Ohio is just too darn cold in the winter.  I'm a flip-flops (on my feet only) and t-shirts kinda guy.

Point Roberts, because it's not really far to Vancouver at all, and it's supposed to be nice.  There's actually stuff to do there, too - it's a resort town.

And Northwest Angle is really Republican.  Utah Republican.

What do these two places have in common?

Point Roberts, because it's not really far to Vancouver at all, and it's supposed to be nice.  There's actually stuff to do there, too - it's a resort town.

If you're into hunting, fishing, boating and the like, there's plenty to do in the Northwest Angle. But I'm not.

And Northwest Angle is really Republican.  Utah Republican.

Yes, it even voted for Mark Kennedy.

Something very surprising: In 2002, Paul Wellstone got more votes there than Walter Mondale. Wellstone got over 7% there countywide, also over 7% in Cook county, and almost 7% in Kittson county. What is it with isolated parts of northern Minnesota still voting for a dead guy?

It's feasible that they didn't even know he was dead.

In case it wasn't obvious, both of these places require you to go through Canada to get to them.

Point Roberts, btw.

When you got the ballot, you also got a little slip with the new Senate race on it, telling you to vote on that and not to vote on the Senate race on the main ballot. I'm not sure if votes on the main ballot still counted, but if they did, these people probably just threw out the slip and voted for Wellstone on the main ballot, which makes no sense, but whatever.

I've never been to either, but I can give my two cents about Point Roberts since I've stayed in the area immediately north of it. It's essentially a gated community guarded by US Customs agents, and many well-off Vancouverites have second homes there to spend in weekends. Also, to get to Point Roberts by land you have to drive on 56th Street, which passes through the suburb hell of Tsawassen. The whole neighbourhood is just another suburb hell with strip malls and McMansions, and a looming power transmission line on the side of 56th Street give plenty of eyesores that dampen the expectations of Point Roberts. I really doubt BRTD would like Point Roberts.
