Senator Barack Obama wins the Democratic nomination for President and the general election.  In early January 2009, Obama resigns his seat.  Who does Governor Rod Blagojevich nominate to replace him?  It seems doubtful there would be a special election as the general election for the seat would be in November 2010.

This issue means very little as it obviously will never happen, but I would have to say Blagojevich makes a very interesting choice and chooses Tammy Duckworth feeling she win the general rather easily and Blagojevich is a moderate himself

Almost certainly Rahm, who holds Blagojevich's old House seat.

Wouldn't Emanuel prefer to stay in the House leadership?

I concur.  Perhaps Dan Hynes.

And what's so wrong with that? Everyone in politics is corrupt aren't they? Why pick on Blagojevich?

AG Lisa Madigan, perhaps.   Or Congresswoman Schakowsky.  Paul Vallas.  Maria Pappas.

Duckworth is now a member of the Governor Blagojevichs cabinet as Secretary of the VA or something.

It won't happen, but if for some reason it did, he would nominate Chicago mayor Richard P. Daley

Daley wouldn't accept it, since it would mean he could no longer be the dictator of Chicago.
