How about this scenario?

Hillary Clinton (2009-2013)
John Ellis Bush (2013-2021)
Barack Obama (2021-2029)

Dammit! We'll have had to have gone under 12 years of the dumb Bushes and 12 years of the dumb Clintons before we can actually have the smart Bush in the White House!

The smart Bush? Is that like when you're the only college student to not fail a remedial algebra course?

Well, Jeb looks smart when he's in a family photo.

That might be because he's standing with George W, George HW, and the third brother(Forgot his name but I know he ruined his political career when he embezzled money or something along those lines.)

Also, I think if there is EVER another Bush presidency, it will be Jeb's son George P.

Chuck Hagel? He's not going to be a Senator any more, he's not running for President, he's made himself very unpopular with the Republican base, and there's even talk of him abandoning the Republicans entirely. No chance.

I always find it mildly amusing how people seem to assume that three presidencies down the road, we'll still be tossing around the politicians we have today.

As I said earlier in this thread, why not put yourself in the shoes of somebody in 1967, and try and predict the next three presidents.  If you guessed: a Vice President who left office six years previously; the House Minority leader; and some hick state legislator from Georgia; you win a prize!

Of course, a whole bunch of other years could be picked and you'll find the same effect.

If someone had told me in 1997 that that new governor of Texas with no prior political experience whatsoever was going to beat Al Gore in 2000, I would have thought that that person was crazy.

See, things may have been different where you lived. Around my neighborhood in Ohio, it was all about George Bush...George Bush...the Governor of Texas and son of President Bush. By the time November 2000 came around though, my town leaned Gore.

It was this way in 1988?  You're serious?

This is a stupid thread for reasons already explained many times, and I don't know why people are still seriously replying. Why the hell would Huckabee still be relevant 10 years from now?

Let's go back to 1997 again and ask people who would be the frontrunners in 2008. How many would say:

-The First Lady
-A just elected State Senator from Illinois
-A wealthy trial lawyer in North Carolina
-An uninteresting backbench Senator from Tennessee just elected to his first full term.
-The mayor of NYC
-A Mormon businessman who lost to Ted Kennedy

Or go back to 1992 right after Clinton was elected and ask people who would be the next two Presidents after him? How many would predict he'd be succeeded by the son of the guy who just lost and how many would predict he would be succeeded by either:

-Clinton's wife
-An attorney at a Chicago law firm
-An unknown North Carolina trial lawyer
-A DC lobbyist and actor
-A New York federal prosecutor
-A Mormon businessman preparing a run against Ted Kennedy

See how stupid this is?

Back in 1997, there was already a lot of speculation that Thompson might run in 2000 (though of course no one was thinking about 2008 yet).  In fact, if Lamar Alexander, hadn't run, there's a good chance Thompson would have.

As I mentioned way back in this thread, there's nothing the least bit weird about speculating about two presidents down the line.  Whoever's selected to run as VP next year (just ~10 months from now) for either party has a decent shot at being the 45th president.  The 45th president might also be whoever runs for the opposition party in 2012, and we can already guess who some of the 2012 candidates might be (as someone in 2003 might have guessed that folks like Clinton, Edwards, and McCain would be running in 2008).

Predicting three presidents out is of course much harder.  But even there, you can *sometimes* guess who some of the contenders might be.  As I mentioned earlier, GHW Bush had served in many different jobs in the Nixon/Ford administrations, and was considered as a possibility for Ford's running mate in 1976, and he was still relatively young back then, so someone might have guessed that he'd be a possibility for a future president way back then.  And Reagan would certainly have been considered as a possible future president back when he was governor of CA during the Nixon administration.

Obviously, there are many more future contenders who we can't predict, and it's unlikely that any of us will get it exactly right, but this thread is all in good fun, so I don't see what the big deal is.

By 2021, the illegal immigration issue will have been solved when the illegal immigrants are granted amnesty. The Republicans will be forced to accommodate Hispanics or never win an election again.

Given how hispanics assimilate and within a few generations stop voting on color/race lines that won't stop the GOP as much as both of us would like it to.

I hereby predict that Colin Powell will defeat Dan Quayle for the 1996 Republican nomination. Powell will then be elected the first African-American president of the United States.

Powell will subsequently win in a landslide against former vice-president Al Gore in 2000 ( Tongue ), before being succeded as president by Democrat Dick Gephardt in 2004.
