To give another example:

At the beginning of Jimmy Carter's term:
Governor of California
ex-director of the CIA
Attorney General of Arkansas

So plainly, this is a stupid thread. But considering the author of it...

At the beginning of Jimmy Carter's term:
Governor of California
ex-director of the CIA
Attorney General of Arkansas

So plainly, this is a stupid thread. But considering the author of it...

But Bush wasn't just a former CIA director.  He had also been a member of Congress and had held several other jobs in the Nixon and Ford administrations, *and* had been on Ford's shortlist for his running mate in 1976.  *And* he would have been a relatively young (by presidential standards) 53 years old in 1977, so it would have been perfectly logical to include him in a list of possible future presidents.  Also, Reagan wasn't just a former governor of California.  He had mounted a pretty serious primary challenge to Ford in 1976, so he'd be a logical choice to include on a list of possible future presidents as well.

So I don't think it's the least bit crazy to toss out guesses about the next two presidents.  It's not too early to guess who might the '08 VP candidates be or who might run for president in 2012 (2012 candidates will already start putting organizations together in 2009, which is only two years away!), so two presidents out really isn't a stretch.  Obviously, it's a shot in the dark, but this is all in good fun.  *Three* presidents out is really pushing things, but in some cases you can even do that.  For example, one could have predicted Nixon as a possible future president back in 1959 or Reagan as a possible future president in 1973 or Bush as a possible future president in 1975.

well, there is the obvious pattern to follow:
Hillary Cinton: 09-12 (Would anyone really relect her?)
Jeb Bush: 13-20, (a Bush that is smarter, less stubborn, and a better politician)
Chelsea Clinton: 21-25 (just to keep the pattern going)

No No... Chelsea could never be President.  You must be thinking of Roger Clinton.

BTW... Reagan was also the former President of the Screen Actors guild and had also previously been a very popular political speaker who went on tour for GE.  Also, he also delivered "The Speech" during the 1964 Republican Convention... its the only thing from that Convention that anyone remembers.  I guess my point is that I can't stand it when people belittle Reagan by noting, of his career, that he was only a "former-actor".

The exception being Back to the Future because it was meant as a joke, and apparently, even Reagan thought it was funny, because he had the part rewound several times while he laughed.

Either;

Fred Thomson for 8 years
Thomson's VP for 8 years (don't know him well enough to predict who that'll be)
Mark Sanford for 8 years

Or;

Hillary Clinton for 4 years
Elizabeth Dole for 8 years
Dole's VP for 8 years (don't know him well enough to predict who that'll be)

I'd like;

Ron Paul for 8 years
Mark Sanford for 8 years
Tom Tancredo for 8 years

Thirty-two years of uninterrupted Republican control of the White House?  A little optimistic, don't you think?

Elizabeth Dole will be too old in another five years.  Bob Dole is a really old man right now, and I think he'd be too old to be in the White House for 8 years, if he lasts that long.  Especially if Lizzy is ousted from the Senate in 2008 like she could very well be.

I think we'll have a Democrat in office sometime in the next three administrations, though it may or may not be until 2012 before he or she is elected.

Maybe.  I've got a reason, though.  From what I've heard, Fred Thompson is one of the few true fiscally conservative Republicans left.  A lot of people are upset about spending, so someone who would focus on cutting the deficit would make his party pretty popular (IMHO.)

Hmm.  I didn't think of that.  We'll need to nominate a woman, so I automatically thought of Dole as the most well known female Republican.

The fact remains, however, that such a streak would be absolutely unprecedented by a long shot.  The closest you could get to that would be the 20-year streak of Roosevelt and Truman, and even then a lot of people felt that was way too much.

Who's going to remember who Mark Warner is in 2020?

(Heck, who's going to remember who Mike Huckabee is in 2012?)

If he returns to the Governor's Mansion in 2009 elections, or becomes a U.S. Senator in the future, it is unlikely that he would simply fall off of the political map.  As for Huckabee, they said similar things about Bob Dole after 1976, 1980, and 1988.  They also said the same thing about Al Gore after 1988.

It means nothing now, but nine months ago, I would've predicted the next three Presidents as:

Mark Warner (2009-2017)
Bill Frist (2017-2021)
Barack Obama (2021-2029)

Hillary Clinton(2009-2014) Moderatley un-popular president, but does bring the troops home.
Fred Thompson(2015-2019) Wins in a close election against Hillary, but is known as the worst president ever. Even worse than George Bush.
Mark Warner(2019-2027) Known as the best president of the 21st century, becuase of his balancing of the budget, Universal Healthcare program, and modernization of the military.

Well Warner in this Scenario, is like FDR. I forgot to put that he got the country out of a pretty bad recession, and started to balance the Trade Imbalance as well.

Bush-Clinton from 1989-2021.. Talk about Dynasty. I doubt America will have another Bush presidency for some while yet, if ever.

Dammit! We'll have had to have gone under 12 years of the dumb Bushes and 12 years of the dumb Clintons before we can actually have the smart Bush in the White House!
