Here is a new poll commissoned by the Anne Northup for Governor campaign done by Public Opinion Strategies.

Should I be feeling apprehensive about the validity of this poll?

Here's some links to statewide primary maps for Gubernatorial candidates

Beshear/Mongiardo

1987 Governor: Beshear 18%

Henry/True

1998 Senator: Henry 28%

Richards/Brown

2003 Governor: Richards 46%

1995 Sec. of State: Brown 35%

Lunsford/Stumbo

2003 At. Gen: Stumbo 36%

Galbraith/Other dude

1991 Governor: Galbraith 5%

Maps that aren't added:

Miller's 1999 primary for treasurer
Galbraith's 1995 primary for Governor
Beshear's 1996 primary for Senate (like it means a lot)
Mongiardo's 2004 primary for Senate (like it means a lot)

Why yes, Galbraith did get 9% in a Democratic primary once

And Steve Beshear stomped Tom Barlow in the parts of Kentucky that Barlow didn't represent in Congress

Right now, No way in hell the Dem primary doesn't go to a runoff.

Kentucky doesn't have a runoff.  See this calendar from the Kentucky Secretary of State's Office and the Kentucky page of the usually quite reliable Politics1.com site, as well as the Kentucky Election Results Home Page on this (Dave's) awesome site (no runoffs are listed even though many Democratic primaries listed there had noone get close to majority.

Time to wash this brown stuff off my nose.

Thanks RBH.  The 1992 amendment indicated on that site must have been the one establishing the 40% requirement to avoid a runoff, or at least the one that raised it to 40%, as Brereton Jones got only 38% in the Democratic Gubernatorial primary in 1991 and there is nothing on this site about a runoff election between Jones and Scotty Beasler, which I think someone (probably you) would have added if runoff had taken place.  If you had any information on the history of Kentucky Gubernatorial runoff law (or past required runoffs for other offices) I would appreciate it.

But the UMW has already come out saying that they're not going to support Lunsford.

Well, what would a coal mining area (if Lunsford is from the Appalachain part of Kentucky - he was born in Kenton County, KY according to Wikipedia which is in the heart of Kentucky's portion of suburban Cincinatti today but may have been more rural and perhaps within the coal mining region back in 1947) be without it's wealthy executive types (although I don't think Lunsford was or is in the coal business)?

Lunsford wasn't in the coal business. He's in the nursing home business.

But, he endorsed Fletcher in 2003.

And the United Steelworkers is also against him.

I was responding to your responce to Lewis's comment that Lunsford was a good Appalachian name (your response being that the UMW had already come out against him, as if that was contrary to him possibly having Appalachian roots), and I just thought I would make the fun point that "what would a [insert blue collar profession here] area be without its hated business types?"
