One of my personal heroes.

His 1924 platform called for the following:

* Government ownership of the railroads and utilities
* Easy credit for farmers
* Abolition of child labor
* Right of workers to unionize
* An end to US imperialism in Latin America

His candidacy was backed by the non-Communist left; he was endorsed by the Socialist Party, the Farmer-Labor Party, and the American Federation of Labor. The Wall Street Journal editorial page called his platform "Wisconsin Bolshevism," while the Communist Party called it "reactionary."

Obviously, massive Freedom Fighter.

They became the Democratic branch of the Democratic party.

Even though I don't agree with him I will call him a freedom fighter because he, like Debs, always seemed to be a wise and gracious politician who fought for what he believed in but yet was open to the realities around him.
