Ron Paul, the Friendliest GOP Candidate?

Although he is considered a long shot for the 2008 presidential nomination, Rep. Ron Paul has the early edge over his Republican rivals on the social networking site MySpace.

The nine-term congressman from southeastern Texas has more than 2,100 MySpace friends, outpacing his nearest rival, John McCain, who has fewer than 1,300, according to Techpresident.com, a new Web site covering online aspects of the presidential campaign.
o
Paul, known for his libertarian views, formed an exploratory committee last month and is largely counting on grassroots support to compete with better-financed candidates.

But the tally on TechPresident, which officially launched today, also underscores the overwhelming advantage Democrats have in tapping into “netroots” supporters.

Paul’s social circle in cyberspace pales in comparison to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., who currently leads with more than 36,000 MySpace friends.

Interesting.

Are you sure the John McCain isn't a pipefitter in New Jersey?  The John McCain I know has no friends.

As to the Obama buddies, the number sounds about correct.  That's roughly the number of liberal 'journalists' at this time.  However, it nice to know that the liberal media outlets are continuing to lay off employees as their circulation continues to slump.

Indeed.  The internet is disproportionately libertarian.

I always thought it was disproportionately liberal.

And I still don't have a myspace account.

OMG... did you know that Howard Dean has raised more money than any of the other 2004 Democratic Primary candidates.  I don't know about you, but I am predicting his money and internet fan base will translate into major grassroots support when Iowa rolls around.

So it turns out the # of MySpace friends one has is completely irrelevant to how they perform in presidential primaries.

Oh it's funny observing how people thought at the time. It's funny thinking MySpace was big once.

I forgot Myspace was still a thing back in 2007. It feels like something lost from 2004 or so.

I think I might still have mine, somewhere out there.  A girl friend made me one when I was like 16.  Don't think I really ended up using it all that much though.  And, as has been said, it is crazy to think MySpace was the thing at one time.

I actually had a friend remove me from his "top friends" on his Myspace profile because his boyfriend was jealous and made him.

Facebook was just part of the agenda to make people think that Ron Paul didn't have 1,005 delegates in 2012.
