Note: I don't mean your town, or city, or county, or state, or whatever.  I mean the people you talk to every day, especially those with whom you talk politics.

I don't remember ever having this poll.

R-Too Close to call

Immediate Family-Republican (though not terribly conservative, but right of center)

Relatives-More Democratic, Liberal (with some exceptions)

Friends-closer friends tend to be more liberal (and more democratic) but outside of them tends to form a group of less close more conservative friends.

They vary from conservative to liberal to libertarian, but I really don't discuss politics that much outside of this forum.

"Liberal" is an understatement, but I rarely talk politics in real life.

My immediate family is Republican and mostly conservative.

My extended family, though, is mostly Democratic.

Democratic/too close to call (family is split evenly [as in, 2 and 2], friends are mostly Democratic, school is mostly Republican, locality is about evenly split [!], extended family is mostly evenly split and/or unknown...)

Option 4

Most of my family is very conservative.  Most of the other people I know are fairly liberal.

My father is a Clintonesque Democrat.
My mother is a liberal Democrat.
My parents generation of the family is otherwise almost universally GOP.
My generation with one exception is universally Dem.
I don't hang out with people anymore who voted for Bush in 2004 although I work with a couple who I can't avoid.

Independent-and yes I do mean that despite it not being a choice.  Although around here you really don't get too many hard social conservatives.

Being a Swede it's obviously hard to categorize. I'd say an even split, more or less. My mum's family is all conservative, my dad's, being working class, is more moderate social democrat. My cousins are pretty left-winged. My younger brother is hard-core libertarian, my older brother is a bit crazy but moderately right-of-centre. Most people I know at the university are left-winged, though a couple are conservative. Of my personal friends, those that are interested in politics are:

1 Ayn Rand fan
1 hard-core socialist
1 fundamentalist Christian
1 gay ultra-libertarian
1 single-issue fundamentalist environmentalist

There is no real system to it.

My wife is extreme left - Howard Dean like.

Most of my family is libertarian like.

My friends from school/college are all over the map.

People who I work with is clearly obvious.
