I've got a great idea for a non-binding resolution:
James Webb will not be recognised as the Senator from Virginia, but instead, George Allen will. All votes made by James Webb will not be counted by the Senate. George Allen has the freedom to appear at the Senate floor duing a session. Any vote made by George Allen will be counted by the Senate. The plaque on the Virginia Senator's desk will not say James Webb, but it will say George Allen.

What do you think of that 83-word non-binding resolution?

How do you plan to get around the fact that, oh i don't know...Jim Webb got more votes than George Allen?

yet again, we see evidence of Republican willful ignorance and blindness to reality.

The insurgency is in its last throes!

Iraq had weapons of mass destruction!

Global warming is not caused by humans!

The Iraq War is popular!

keep it up guys

if Jim Webb doesn't like it, he can ask to redo the election. If he wins that election, the non-binding resolution would become void. If George Allens wins that election, all debate on who won the VA Senate election would be stopped, with George Allen taking over as VA Senator.

I think the idea of a non-binding resolution is that it's... non-binding.

It would be unconstitutional obviously and it wouldn't pass committee let alone on the floor.

I believe people are again missing the point of what he is trying to say which is a very good point.  This is about as pointless as the Dems wasting time on a non-binding Iraq resolution.  The point that real work should be done instead of politically charged meaningless legislation.

Yes, thank you, DWTL. I am trying to point out that the non-binding resolution of Iraq deosn't do anything, and that its only point is to piss off Republicans. That, and that I hate Jim Webb.

Of course, none of what is proposed in the bill would actually take affect. It would just make it so in the 2008 World Almanac, when they show members of the Senate, it will appear like this:

Virginia:
John Warner (R)
Jim Webb (D)*

Washington:
Patty Murray (D)
Maria Cantwell (D)

West Virginia:
Bob Byrd (D)
John Rockefeller (D)

Wisconsin:
Herb Kohl (D)
Russ Feingold (D)

Wyoming:
Craig Thomas (R)
Mike Enzi (R)

*Though Jim Webb won election to the Senate, the Republican Senate delegation refuses to recognize him as a senator

I would actually support that, given that it would do nothing and would make the Republican Party look like spoiled children.
