...Al Gore has won the nomination but has yet to decide on a running mate despite the fact the convention in Denver is half way over. At a press conference in Aurora, Colorado, he shocks the media by announcing his running mate: Gov. Bill Ritter of Colorado (Why shocking? Ritter is "pro-life")

Two questions:

A) Does this virtually lock-up Colorado for the ticket and help out in the west?

B) Does this help Gore keep a big chunk of the evangelical bloc away from the polls, making them come out at the rate they came out in 2000 compared to 2004 (especially if the Republicans nominate McCain or Giuliani)?

Shocking answer: This thread is later put into what-if scenarios since Former Vice President Al Gore never ran in the year 2008.
