Just a few odds and ends for LA senate:

Two Republicans are out:  7th district congressman Charles Boustany and 4th district congressman Jim McCrery.

Two other Republicans are seriously considering a run:  6th district representative Richard Baker and Secretary of State Jay Dardenne.

An old (mid-January) poll from Southern Media and Opinion Reserach shows Landrieu holding up reasonably well, however:

Landrieu (D) 53%
Dardenne(R) 38%

I think Rodney Alexander would be a good candidate for the GOP.  A former Democrat, conservative, representing a formerly-Democratic area where Landrieu needs to do well.  He will be 62 in 2008, which is one negative, but I think Baker is also around the same age.  Also, Baker has been in Congress for over twenty years - he has left it a bit late to think about running for the Senate; I view both him and McCrery as Congressman immersed in GOP House affairs rather than Senators.

A Democrat would have a pretty good chance of picking up any one of those Congressional districts if they were to run for Senate.

I'll be rooting for Landrieu regardless of which Louisiana Republicans throw their hat in

Some things in life are sacred and this Senate seat is one of them. Democrat-held since 1883, it has been
