Is Lamar Alexander safe? Last year in Tennessee, a black Democrat gave a white Republican a completely unprecedented run for his money. Granted, Corker was a horrible candidate for the Republicans, and always did poorly against Ford in comparison polls. But still, might Ford launch another campaign for the Senate, or might a slightly stronger (white, presumably) Democrat challenge ALexander for his seat? The last time he was elected he only recieved 54% of the vote; not really that impressive in a Republican state like TN.

If Ford couldn't beat a mediocre candidate for an open seat in the worst Republican year since 1974, then he can't beat a respected one-term senator and former governor in 2008.

No one is ever totally safe but Ford, who was a strong candidate, probably will not run again.  I think Alexander will be re-elected.

Phil Bredesen could beat Lamar, maybe. But our Lt. Governor is a Republican, so he won't run. No one else could beat Alexander .

Not if Ed Bryant couldn't do it when it was an open seat.

?!?!?

alexander is one of the best republicans in the senate.  why on earth would a republican want to challenge him?

i guess he could be challenged by some middle aged, obese, tent revival preacher who thinks he is too 'librul'

i can see why you as a democrat would be hoping for such a scenario.
