Today the Arizona Republic (the dominant newspaper in Arizona) had a straw poll of its readers in which they asked:

"If he runs, would you vote for John McCain for president?"

Now, there is no pretense to being a 'scientific' poll.  Also, readers of the Republic tend to know more about McCain than the typical liberal in Rhode Island et al., and they tend to be Republicans and yes, conservatives (two groups McCain takes fiendish delight in attacking).

There were 5,201 votes, with 65.16% taking the "No" position and 34.18% taking the "Yes" position.

Though it doesn't really mean anything, it's still interesting

What it means is that there is a lot of hostility to McCain among conservative Republicans in Arizona.

But then, the McCain backed candidate for State Party Chair lost a few weeks ago too.

Further, the straw poll of Republican Precinct Committee Members in Maricopa County earlier this year favored Duncan Hunter over McCain.
