Nice to see that this can be handled in such a sensible fashion.

No wonder the Mississippi Dems are swirling down the hole.

The MS Democratic Party has come under fire lately for calling out the DINOs, and by DINOs I dont mean people like Joe Lieberman, I mean people who are worse than Zell Miller.

Now I wasn't going to vote for Dale anyway in the primary, so I don't really care if he's kicked out.

As far as getting rid of the representative, good move.  We need to kick out 10 or 15 legislators out of the party.

The left wing fringe which lay within the heart of the Democratic Party has reared its ugly head in the state of Mississippi, and in so doing, ensured true Republican dominance of state politics for years to come.

I wonder if the Democratic Executive Committee of Mississippi has thought that maybe a large number of Mississippi Democrats are more supportive of traditional values, and the basics of common sense economics (not hard right or hard left), because their values are shared by many people in that state (as evidenced by their ability to hold onto state offices where their national brethren have not)?

All one needs to say to the Mississippi Democrats about this ideological cleansing is "say goodnight Gracie," because it is going to be a LONG stay in the wilderness.

What's your majority in the State House these days? Seriously.

27.  So if they kick 15 legislators out and they switch to R, we pick up the chamber, woohoo! Smiley

If I lived in Mississippi I wouldn't care who held the leg since neither party would hardly have a difference.

Actually if I lived in Mississippi I wouldn't care about ANYTHING besides getting out of Mississippi.

No offense to the people of Mississippi, but...amen.  It's nearly at the bottom of places I'd want to live, just slightly ahead of Detroit, Newark, and Camden.

Then again, I'm a stuck up New England elitist.

I applaud the Mississippi Democrats for this move. They're fighting a losing battle in any case, so they may as well have some standards for their candidates.

If you want to win?  Don't you already have control of the Mississippi legislature?

I know that a lot of the Democrats in places like Mississippi must be quite conservative (they need to be in order to get elected).

I imagine there are some old fashioned, unreconstructed 'yellow dogs' who hark back to the days of James Eastland and Ross Barnett and who somehow haven't found their way across the aisle to the Republican benches.

But how conservative is the average conservative Mississippi Democrat? Backing Bush in 2004 does not make you an ultraconservative; I read that Stephanie Herseth, the South Dakota congresswoman, endorsed Bush and I suppose she is seen as reasonably mainstream.

What sort of positions are the likes of this Insurance Commissioner taking on the individual issues?

Like what? Throwing people out of your party who don't support the party 100% of the time? Worked real well for you guys in Connecticut.

It's one thing not to support us 100%.  It's another to be a conservative Bush-suporting DINO who has no business in the Democratic Party.  Lieberman is nothing compared to many MS "Democrats."

While I agree with the fact that Lieberman has nothing on the Dixiecrats when it comes to conservatism, it's still a rather display of ideological hackery to throw them out. It's as though you would rather your party have ideological purity than presence in your homestate.

who cares if we have a "presence" if it's no different than the Republican Party?  We need people who will stand up to Barbour, not bend to his whims.

because having a presence is what keeps your party relevant.

I'm pretty certain I read it in the Almanac of American Politics 2006 - apparently she was asked in a candidates' debate.
