Aye (althought it appears is it does matter)

As Jake pointed out, the whole point of illegal labor is b/c it is cheap.  If these people had to be paid minimum wage they would out of a job so fast.  All that clause does is cost almost all illegals their jobs.

We will now vote on DWTL's amendment:
"Amend Section 2.1 to include all felonies including using fake SS numbers"

Aye, c'mon people the bill is awful but let's at least make it better.

The problem is that we don't have a list of what crimes constitute felonies, although I suspect that certain things (such as having consensual sex with your relative, or using cocaine) may be considered a felony and even if you think those things should be illegal I wouldn't bar someone from entering the country because of them.

Then I propose we revote on the amendment making the wording more clear to "having committed the crime of using a fake identity or social security to gain employment or other benefits"

Nay, as much for the poor drafting as for the substance of the amendment.

I also think it's a tad hypocritical for the District 1 Senator to introduce a measure punishing others for identity fraud.

Very true, especially concerning that if Blue Dog Dem had voted in the election he would have, most likely, been removed from Atlasia for a period of time.

Yes, but if you're attempting to lodge a filibuster, I will motion to end debate.

Ok, one more serious amendment and then you can motion to end debate, I think there is a serious issue as to when and how this amnesty will take place, so I propose:

Section 2.4: An illegal immigrant may apply for amnesty one year after the passage of this bill
Section 2.5: A quota of 200,000 illegals will be allowed to apply for citizenship each year.

What is the rationale for 2.5?  Allowing 12 million people to apply for citizenship is still more practical than deporting them.

Another DWTL amendment:
"Add a new Clause to Section 2 saying:
Must have been in the country for at least 10 years, hold a steady job or be the supporter of a family
"

So, legal immigrants must be living in the country for five years, but an illegal immigrant can apply for citizenship immediately? Very fair.

The rationale is that having this mass influx of new citizens at once, and let's be real many will need government programs, is too much to handle.  We need this to be a gradual change.  A green card raffle if we must.
