Fresno, CA has 3 Costco's alone. Most Costco's per capita I gather.

San Diego has around 2.

I really don't get the warehouse clubs. Who wants to drive all the way to the exurbs to spend five dollars on a gallon of mayonnaise?

This is the exurbs?

That would appear to be situated in exurban L.A. Grin

Shocked I had no idea that she had a Costco that close to her place. I'm jealous now. Angry

I've never seen a Sam's Club except when I went to Maryland. Costco has cheap gas, which is good.

Do they not exist in the Bay Area? Fresno managed to house 3 Costco's and 1 Sam's Club.

I love Costco.  The randomness of it all makes it feel like you're stepping into The Price is Right prize warehouse.

No. Wal-Mart hardly exists here, because of zoning laws.

First Sams Club anywhere near me opened in 2004 I think.  Other than that you have to go to Westchester for one, or Albany is the next north.  There popular in South Jersey.  Costco has a lot of stores, but as I stated earlier BJ's is the dominant warehouse chain

I've never been to either.  The closest thing we have is L&M Fleet Supply and it smells like rubber in there and it's where I always bought my winter boots as a kid (sorels)

I can say, though, that after grad party season this summer I have learned that Sam's Club cakes are some of the finest things ever created, vastly superior to their Costco counterparts.

There's a huge Sam's Club not far from my house. A new Costco is being built even closer.

My parents LOVE Costco. When we go in vacation, they check if there is a Costco near the destination or on the road. Sometimes, my father go see his brother in Montreal five hour away only to go to Costco because we doesn't have one in the region.

Never been in one of these kinds of places, but I like Costco better because it has a cool name and isn't affiliated with Wal-Mart.

They're rarer than practically everything here. There's a very good reason why California is one of two states to have more Targets than Wal-Marts.

I used to work at Costco. It's an incredibly sweet job. $11 an hour starting pay, plus time and a half on Sundays. If you work there for 90 days, you also get health benefits, 401k, etc., even if you're part-time or only work during the summers (for college students). Sam's Club is horrible though, from what I hear.

Same here, living in San Jose I've never been to a Sam's Club in my life.

There are way more Costco's than Sam's Clubs where I live.
Very surprised to find out that Florida doesn't have very many Costco's (as per the OP's map).

A Sam's Club opened up nearby a few months ago (before which I'd never even heard the name). It's a good place. The lack of them here probably speaks to our Northern-ness. Angry
