Is the whole sorted history of moonshine the reason why it remains (largely) illegal and can only legally be sold under 100 proof? I mean their are other hard liquours out there with higher proofs and nastier and yet, they are legal.

i wouldnt trust any of it.

Correct me if I miss the target here but since moonshine is generally processed by regular citizens and not by a plant, it causes more alarm for having tainted or even poisened moonshine. Thus why red flags are flown for moonshine.

Too bad there wasn't a way to regulate moonshine as well.

Again Jeff, correct me if I'm wrong.

Moonshine should be legal.

Although one hopes that those making it are clean and careful in their production process.

I'm fine with it being legal, though it should be regulated with standards similar to those required for the brewing of other alcohol.

If pot were legalized, regulated and taxed, expect a sizeable (though much smaller than today) moonshine pot culture to survive.

I'm split on moonshine.  I know why it is illegal (since if it is made improperly it can cause severe medical ailments), but at the same time, it is a good fuel source that can be produced locally.  To legalize it for fuel production just makes it that much more likely it will be consumed as a drink, resulting in more sick/dying individuals.
