I am sure I created a similar thread some time back, but here it goes:

2008: Rudy Guliani/Fred Thompson(R) V. Hillary Clinton/Bill Richardson(D)

2012: Rudy Guliani/Fred Thompson(R) V. Barak Obama/Jim Webb(D)

2016: Barak Obama/Jim Webb(D) V. Tim Palewnty/Mike Pence(R)

2020: Tim Palewnty/Mike Pence(R) V. Antonio Villaraigosa/Rahm Emanuel(D)

On another board, I had:

2008: Guiliani/Thompson (R) defeats Clinton/Obama (D)
2012: Edwards/Herseth (D) defeats Guiliani/Thompson (R)
2016: Gray (L) wins in Congress against Edwards (D) and Hoeven (R). However, in the Senate Herseth (D) retained vice-presidency against Goldman (L) and Crist (R).

Interesting.

I think it'll be
2008: Romney/Bush V. Hillary/ Richardson
2012: Romney/Bush V. Obama/Webb
2016: Bush/Pence V. Webb/Ritter
2020: Webb/Ritter V. Pence/Pawlenty

You're scenario has the country swinging way right with Giuliani for the GOP and then later Obama for the Dems.  I have the country staying the course with a conservative GOP ticket and later a win by two major centrist Democrats.

Rawlings, my main problem with that scenario is Jeb Bush on the ticket. I think putting a Bush on the ticket, even if he's not his brother, would basically lead to Republican defeat. Also, for this reason Condi Rice will also not be on the ticket (I'm convinced she'd be a good choice for next NFL commissioner, though).

Except, Jeb will provide a mighty contrast to his brother (I like them both--but they are undeniably different).  If Jeb isn't the guy then you'll probably see Fred Thompson, Tim Pawlenty, or the Governor of South Carolina (whatizzname--Mark San___?).

Interesting.

I think it'll be
2008: Romney/Bush V. Hillary/ Richardson
2012: Romney/Bush V. Obama/Webb
2016: Bush/Pence V. Webb/Ritter
2020: Webb/Ritter V. Pence/Pawlenty

The only problem I'd have with that is that that would basically have the executive branch in Republican hands for 20 years in a row (not to mention 20 years of having a Bush in the executive branch).  That's an awfully long time to go while not having the public get tired of you or without having a scandal bring you down.  The only time in American history when such a long streak has ever been seen is the period of FDR from 1933-1953, and that was just because the same guy was able to get elected over and over and over.

the Governor of South Carolina (whatizzname--Mark San___?).

Sanford.

VS
Fred Thompson/Mitt Romney (R)

2012:

Bill Richardson/Mark Warner (D)
VS
Mitt Romney/Mark Sanford (R)

2016:

Mark Warner/Elliot Spitzer (D)
VS
Charlie Crist/Sam Brownback(R)

2020:

Brad Henry/Jim Webb (D)
VS
Tim Pawlenty/Mike Pence (R)

I find it funny that people actually think Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty will still have chances after 2012 and 2016.

Unless Pawlenty is picked for VP in 2008, why do people think he's still going to be relevant in 2020?

who just lost to Kennedy that's in the GOP?  wasn't that something Chase?

John Edwards didn't become a senator until 1998; he was still a trial lawyer. Richardson was still in Congress in 1996.

But, if we were to extrapolate from this, here would be our frontrunners:

Gavin Newsom
John McCain
Ken Chase
Arnold Schwarzenegger (Amendment change necessary)
Laura Bush
Emil Jones
Mike Moore
Jim Webb
